Kintsugi - The art of Japanese Restoration
Introductory Four Week Course
Learn how to restore damaged ceramics with traditional Japanese techniques that use Japanese lacquer (Urushi) and real gold or silver. For the beginner’s class, students will start with a cracked or broken ceramic piece and slowly transform it into a renewed work of art. This is surely a skill that is worth the patience, time, and dedication to learn!
Sunday Oct 24, Oct 31, Nov 7, Nov 14
from 10:00am to 12:00pm
What to Bring
Ceramic piece with a crack or broken in large solid pieces. (No chipped or shattered pieces as this requires a much higher skill. If you don't have a piece for the class please contact us and we will arrange something.)
Long sleeves (there is a possibility you will get lacquer permanently stained on your clothes) We will provide gloves and arm covers.
We will use real Japanese lacquer (Urushi) and pure gold or silver in order to get an authentic experience. In some cases, it is possible to develop a rash if the lacquer comes in direct contact with your skin. We provide gloves and guidance for properly handling the lacquer. We strongly recommend that you cover your arms and legs and wear a long sleeve shirt that can become dirty.
Please be sure to arrive on time. The lesson will begin promptly at the beginning of each class.
