Pinot Noir Club - Introduction to Burgundy Part 1
Here we go!
The Burgundy wine region of France embodies contradictions. By being predominantly planted to only two grapes, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, it is misleadingly simple but through its division of vineyards, vitification practices, and history its maddeningly complexity manifests. The wines can reach revelatory heights of enjoyment while another bottle from the same vintage, place, or hand can teach a master class in disillusion! This is Burgundy and as a Pinot Noir Club, we are obligated to delve head-on into it and explore this widely exalted and misunderstood wine region.
An introduction to Burgundy can’t be done with just one class and it’s a rare person that can do this incredible region the justice it deserves on their own. For these reasons, we’re breaking down our Introduction into several parts, sprinkling them over the coming months and inviting guest speakers from across the wine industry to join us and share their perspectives on this region.
On August 3, We’ll commence with a 10,000 foot view of the Cote d’Or, the heartland of Burgundy. I'll talk about the geologic, religious, and political impacts on the region which have set this region apart from all others. Doug Weber from The Wine Company will join us and share some of his experiences from working in Burgundy and help us understand the key differences between the Côte d'Or's two large sub-appellations, the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune.
More on Pinot Noir Club - Few varietals capture the imagination like Pinot Noir. This club is dedicated to this amazing grape, its aficionados, and to all the producers and regions that work with it. What makes this a club? Once you attend one Pinot Noir Club event, we will flag you as a club member and give you advance priority ticketing and discounts to future classes and events for one year. Expect dinners, winemaker events and local promotions at various venues throughout the Twin Cities.
We look forward to seeing you!
