Pinot Noir Club - Introduction to the Willamette Valley
It’s hard to believe we’re only 60 years removed from when Pinot Noir was first planted in the Willamette Valley. The thoughtful intent of the vineyard owners with their deep web of international connections could mislead one into thinking that this little region has produced fine wine for centuries. Their cuvées tell a story of the relentless perseverance of its pioneers, an ever-present communal bond, and an inclusiveness toward outsiders in the form of both people and ideas. This isn’t merely a social history though; the geologic events which impacted this small corner of Oregon are mind-blowingly complex. All this has culminated in wines of vast international acclaim worth investigating and investigate them we will!
Currently, we only have one Introduction to the Willamette Valley class scheduled for our Pinot Noir Club but the region certainly merits a series similar to our Burgundy tastings. We’ll just have to see how deep down the rabbit hole we want to go!
