8ARM
Atlanta, GA · International · $$
8ARM is a restaurant on Ponce in Atlanta, GA.
We want to feed, to endear, to create, to learn, to encourage, to dance, and most importantly, to provide space for our family of black artists, trans welders, latinx musicians, geechee fishermen, asian bakers, women winemakers, white brewers, native farmers, gay electricians and more, in an effort to build a lasting connection between all the people that provide the lifeblood to our community.
When we opened 8ARM six years ago with our late Chef, Angus Brown, we set out to make thoughtful food, while playing by our own rules. When Angus left us, we were forced to reinvent ourselves, and in some ways reinvention itself became our beacon. Over the years we’ve embraced the change and diversity of the chefs that helmed our kitchen. While challenging, it has at times also been beautiful and inspiring. Once again, we find ourselves at a point of reinvention.
On July 2nd, we will end our current food program, but instead of replacing it with another singular concept, we will fully embrace the idea of change by opening our kitchen to a variety of up-and-coming and established chefs. Service will run each week from Thursday-Saturday, and include some of our past chefs like Maricela Vega of Chico and Duy Huynh of Yee's Vietnamese, and also welcome the amazing talents of Cleophus Heathington from Ebi Chop Bar, Molli Voraotsady from SoSoFed, Mike and Shyretha Sheats from Plate Sale, and others, while we will still offer our full bar.
In the spirit of that ephemerality, this format will guide us through to October 8th, when we will close the doors to 8ARM for good.
As most know, the building next to us that housed the old Paris on Ponce space caught fire in late-2019. When their landlord declined to rebuild, the building was subsequently put on the market and billed as space for a new development. We knew that our building was a likely target for any sale or redevelopment of the overall space, despite having different owners, because of the prime Ponce-facing location, and because we would never be able to match a big-monied offer from a developer. Unfortunately, we were recently notified that our building was sold. We're not certain what the long-term future holds for our adorable little building, but it will not include 8ARM.
While our future is not long, we are incredibly humbled by the talents and dedication of our staff and partners, and the amount of support the community has shown us over years past. We hope that support continues for all the chefs that pass through our kitchen and our remaining staff in these final months, and beyond. We hope these next few months will be a celebration of the diverse people, delicious food, refreshing drinks, and great parties that graced 8ARM over the last six years. Please help us go out in style, and shine bright the spirit of Angus Brown.
