A Very Serious Gallery is pleased to present SEASONAL AFFECTIVE: a night of experimental films and the opening of Especially Now, a multimedia exhibition by Chicago-based artist Elise Holowicki. Especially Now is the artist’s first presentation at the gallery and will be on view from January 28th – February 12th, 2023, taking place entirely within the gallery’s closet.
We will host an opening reception on Saturday, January 28th from 7-9pm in our Green Room, including works from Spencer Parsons, Yijun Pan & Anh Vo. The works ask different questions about relational communication, technology, and how we process the world and trauma.
Holowicki employs technology as both tool and subject, using social media as a visual language executed through video conferencing & security cameras.
The main setting is a hyperpop cyber party, examining the inventive creative social interactions within the early pandemic. Especially Now is a timepiece of sorts, conceived and executed in the summer of 2020.
For showings outside of the opening night, the viewer enters an enclosed physical space in the gallery’s closet to expose the isolation & fear that is explored within the piece.
