WHAT IS THE SIERRA FOOTHILL WINE COLLECTIVE?
To showcase the unique and exotic region of the Sierra Foothills AVA and emphasize the bright, fresh, high-quality wines produced by our members.
Our members are bespoke, nature-forward wineries who are pioneers in promoting the high-quality grapes of our region and pushing boundaries to craft some of the best and most awarded wines in California.
Defined by its exquisite elevation, the Sierra Foothills AVA is the highest in California, with vines planted up to 3500' feet.
It has a predominantly Mediterranean climate, with hot days and cool nights creating temperature fluctuations up to 30 degrees.
The soil types range from decomposed granite to volcanic and sandy loams.
These elements create one of the most diverse grape-growing regions in the world, with over 150 varieties planted.
Grapes were first planted in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains during the California Gold Rush of the late 1840s and early 1850s. The Sierra Foothills AVA was established in 1987.
