Afro Freedom / Afro Feast is an event organized by Chef Serigne Mbaye to honor our newest national holiday, Juneteenth. Bringing together some of the best chefs in New Orleans to cook a communal meal, mostly over live fire, much as the ancestors did. Juneteenth commemorates the date in 1865 when Africans enslaved in Texas learned that they were free from bondage. This glorious day has since been celebrated with food, culture, and fellowship. This event will take place in Sheeplo Loop, Petal, Mississippi on the farm of Ben Burkett.
Chef Serigne Mbaye will be hosting four chefs based in New Orleans:
Chef Charly Pierre, of Fritai Restaurant
Chef Martha Wiggins, of Cafe Reconcile
Chef Indigo Martin, of Indigo Soul Cuisine
Chef Sim J Harris, of House of Brown Sugar
Cocktails will be curated by Turning Tables.
