Set in an alpine basin in the far reaches of Northwest Italy in Lombardy, Valtellina is a wine growing region that specializes in the grape known locally as Chivannesca or more broadly as Nebbiolo. Wines from here are lighter in expression than their counterparts in the Piedmont. They are like a whisper from a sage, which invites a moment of reflection. The best-known villages for red wines are Grumello, Sassella and Inferno. There is also an Amarone style DOCG wine called Sforzato (Sfursat).
We will taste them all and explore this unique region first with a seminar followed by a meal featuring a few examples of Rosso wines from the region. This part of the world has been calling Neal to explore its wines. If you hear the call too, join us for this seminar and dinner.
