After the movie Sideways came out in 2005, sales of Merlot began to plummet. This fall was also precipitated by the flood of innocuous, cheap, universal and international styled Merlot that became ubiquitous at weddings, cocktail parties and well…everywhere. The wine was not good and when Paul Giamatti’s character in the movie paned it, the sentiment was echoed en masse. Vineyards were ripped up and sales of the grape dropped.
All the while some of the worlds best wines were and continue to be made from this grape. The much maligned Merlot is deserving of resurrection and on Thursday, January 23rd F&M will contribute to the cause by featuring the most noble of grapes at a seminar tasting followed by dinner. Please join us to explore the many faces of Merlot and discover why it is the grape you actually want to drink when you think of Cabernet Sauvignon. Spaces are limited. Seats are available by booking here.
