The Rhone valley is one of the most prestigious and fascinating wine regions in the world. With over two dozen different varietals allowed, the winemaking possibilities are endless and producers around the globe have taken notice. Rhone varieties like Syrah, Grenache, and Viognier are now marquee names in major wine regions. And some of the less familiar varieties like Marsanne, Carignan, and Mourvedre are gaining a following in up and coming vineyards. This class will take us from the wind swept slopes of the Cote Rotie across three oceans and five continents to see how the Rhone has influenced wine in Washington, Chile, Australia, South Africa and California.
