Creation or Imitation?
Robert Irving III, 9-Year collaborator with the legendary Miles Davis as producer, music director and composer, is also a long-time Educator and Mentor with the Jazz Institute of Chicago. His unique master class explores the contention by African philosopher, Naba Lamoussa Morobenidig “…The human brain is not capable of creating, it can only imitate.” Irving explore this idea in juxtaposition to the claims of innovation in jazz and vindicates the practice of imitation as the means by which we achieve continuity in any art form yet, while showing techniques that take us beyond 'what we know' to discovery of “what is possible”. This is an interactive discourse as musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments for “spontaneous creation” exercises.
Ticket includes lunch and entry into class.
