These Student-Athlete Mental Health & Performance 101 sessions is aimed at student-athletes or parents and coaches, to discuss current mental health trends in the student-athlete population, barriers to seeking treatment, signs and symptoms to look for, and how to help. Additional, a portion of the sessions will be focused on performance enhancement mental skills that student-athletes can practice and utilize to perform at their highest level.
**EACH INDIVIDUAL REQUIRES TICKET** Two seperate sessions will be available. One for Student Athletes (2:00-3:30) and one for parents/coaches (3:30-5:00)
Presented By: Dr. Rachel Turk
Dr. Turk is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with her Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree from Radford University and a former collegiate athlete as a 4-year volleyball starter at the University of Lynchburg (formerly Lynchburg College). She has been the Staff Psychologist embedded in the Athletics department at the University of Richmond since August 2019 where she created mental health and sports performance programing for the department from the ground up. She is a generalist by training and works with all mental health concerns. In addition to her expertise in working with student-athletes, she also specializes in working with survivors of trauma and those with eating concerns and eating disorders. She has a strong interest in supervision and training, which has allowed her to train graduate trainees in a student-athlete specialization track and provide more services to UR student-athletes. She also strongly values outreach and advocacy opportunities to raise awareness and decrease stigma around student-athlete mental health. She strives to engage in continuous professional development regarding multicultural humility and DEI work to foster an open and affirming environment for clients and trainees of all backgrounds.
