FLIGHT SESSION: October Wine Club Release - The Two Saints of Syrah
Mark your calendars! The first Thursday of each month is no longer just the day that wine club wines are ready for pickup, it’s the day that we’ll be cracking open those wines at an in-house flight session that is free to all members, Flight Club & Wine Club alike. In this casual one-hour flight, you will taste a sequential flight of four wines. Flight Sessions are casual, yet engaging socially oriented events held at community seated tables. A sommelier will be on hand to answer questions and give further details on the wines.
Wine glasses bend light, but wines themselves can bend thought. Through wines we can compare and contrast the historical, traditional, climactic and maybe even the spiritual conditions of different places. This month we are going to use our favorite fall grape as the lens. We will look at two regions with terroir so well-suited to imbuing Syrah with the character of its coordinates that maybe it’s time to consider that there is a higher power and they dig on Syrah. Both regions are in some ways ‘lesser-knowns’, as many look right past Santa Barbara on toward Napa or Sonoma. Similarly, many people consider St. Joseph wines what you drink as you wait for the region’s more prized Hermitage and Cote-Rotie to mature. But considering we have the patron saints of workers in Saint Joseph and mathematicians in Saint Barbara, we’re due some enduring and intricate wines to chew on.
