Shereen Alexandria Morse, MD, MPH (she/her) is a Psychiatric care provider and Co-Founder of OCD Washington. OCD Washington, an affiliate of the International OCD Foundation, is a non-profit organization established to provide education, professional referrals, and support to individuals with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, their loved ones, and the healthcare providers who care for them. In addition to this, Shereen is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Washington and an Arts Consultant educating artists about mental health issues so that mental illness may be most accurately represented in the arts.
In this workshop, attendees will learn how to identify obsessive
compulsive disorder-related symptoms when providing care for sexual health. Guidance regarding differential diagnoses will be illustrated with breakout group practices to re-enforce this learning. Care augmentation for our patients with OCD symptoms will be similarly illustrated by case vignette practice in groups. When to refer out to a specialist and when to seek consultation will be discussed. This participation-heavy workshop allows attendees to assimilate what they are learning through practice.
1. Attendees will learn what criteria must be met to diagnose OCD symptoms
2. Attendees will learn about OCD symptoms that can look like common relationship and sexual concerns
3. Attendees will learn how to help clients identify compulsive thoughts & behaviors that may lead to sexual avoidance
4. Attendees will learn how to make a distinction between out-of-control sexual behavior and compulsions associated with OCD
5. Attendees will learn how loved ones and therapists can contribute to a worsening of OCD symptoms in their patients and how they can instead support the person with OCD
