Rye is well known for its abundance of beautiful waterways, come and explore them from a different perspective on a stand-up paddleboard!
Learn some new skills and enjoy a relaxing paddle around the local Sussex rivers, taking in the sights of the villages and countryside, and enjoy the abundant wildlife from a rarely experienced viewpoint.
Stand up Paddleboarding or ‘SUP’ for short is one of the fastest growing waters sports in the world. Using a large, stable board (similar to a surfboard) and a single blade paddle you can navigate your way along coastlines, rivers and lakes.
As well as being a really fun day out, the skills you learn at the beginning and by being out with a qualified SUP guide means that you will qualify for the British Stand Up Paddleboard Association ‘Ready to Ride’ certificate. This certificate can be shown at most paddle board centres around the country and you will be able to hire a board and go out on waterways straightaway.
10am We will meet at The Kitesurf Centre, where you will be introduced to your instructor for the day and fitted for your wetsuits (optional) and life jackets. We’ll then drive (own transport required) to Appledore to the start point for our training.
11am You will be given an introduction to how the weather and environment affects you, how to carry the board and paddle, paddling technique, different types of turns, self-rescue, how to fall safely as well as how to plan expeditions and the basics of stance in surf.
12pm Lunch will be served, a picnic lunch specially designed by Jamie to give you the fuel needed for your afternoon.
1pm After time to get back into your wet suit and (hopefully!) apply some sun-tan lotion, you will be off on your river tour of the military canal.
4pm Departure, we will be back at the starting point with time to deflate your SUP’s and ask questions you might have of your river guide.
