Join Michael, a senior lecturer and graduate of one of the country’s most prestigious art schools, to experience Life Drawing as a beginner or even as an experienced artist. Michael will guide you through the skills needed for both long and short poses with a live model, whilst offering his insights and tips.
Michael Kirkbride is a British painter living in London. He earned a degree in Fine Art from Sunderland Polytechnic, followed by a postgraduate course at the Royal Academy Schools London. The human figure is the dominant structural motif within his work.
9.30 Arrive at the Gallivant and join Michael in the summer house for tea and coffee and an introduction to the day and the materials you will be using.
10.00 This workshop will help your understanding of drawing the human form, using a flexible approach to media and mark making. You will be introduced to our model and Michael will guide you through starting your drawing.
10.15 You will begin by working on short poses with a live model. These will give you the opportunity to start to loosen up and start to see the model as a whole. Michael will help you to understand how to use short poses to inform your drawings.
12.00 Lunch will be served in our dining room. A two-course menu will be served, all fresh ingredients from the surrounding sea and land and celebrating where our beautiful location. Michael will also be on hand to answer any questions that have arisen from the morning class.
1.30 Once back at the summer house, you'll begin work on longer sustained poses with the same model. The short poses that you worked on in the morning will help to inform your drawing and Michael will guide you through the process of keeping these longer poses energetic and alive.
3.30 You will have the opportunity to review both your own and your fellow attendee's work and discuss the outcomes of your drawings.
4pm Your workshop concludes.
