Sardinian wines reflect the complex and turbulent history of the island. Sardinia was once governed by Carthage before the conquest by Ancient Rome, and subsequently by Byzantines, Arabs, Catalans, and the House of Savoy. The island seems to be quite isolated culturally, historically, and geographically from mainland Italy, which is evident in its unique wines. This incredible terroir is still underrated and often overlooked, but it should be on every wine lover’s radar.
