A region that's been obsessed over, its terroirs studied down to the last pebble, its wines collected and revered... Burgundy is wonderful. Everyone agrees. So many people, in fact, that the region's best wines have become all but impossible to find and, once found, to afford. Where can Burgundy lovers turn when Burgundy isn't always the answer? Tonight we'll answer that question with a region that's still among the most value-driven for truly great wines in France: the Loire Valley. Specifically, the barrel-raised chenins of Saumur, and the ethereal, beautiful pinot noirs of Sancerre & its neighbors. We'll learn why Sancerre's true heart is red wine, why chenin is the greatest grape on the planet, and apply Burgundy-loving noses to wines further afield.
