A rose is a rose is a rose!
Here we go again! Hopefully it won't be 105 degrees this time! This is part 2 of our Lyndale Gardens Tour and we're looking forward to it as even though it was a scorcher last time, we had a blast!
Lyndale Gardens is one of the absolute gems of Minneapolis but did you know that besides being one of the best picnic destinations in town, it also boasts the second oldest rose garden in the country? We are providing THE opportunity to go deep into the history of this gorgeous sprawling park with one of the city's leading horticultural voices, Andrew Gawboy.
Andrew was the Lead Gardener at Lyndale Gardens for many years before taking over the reigns of the horticultural practices for the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board. He is a member of the Twin Cities Rose Club, Minnesota Rose Society, Lake Superior Rose Society, and the American Rose Society. He is a rose expert and we've got him lined up for two tours this year.
Here's how it'll work. We're going to do two tours this year at key turning points in the growing season: one tour in mid-June and another in mid-September. Each tour will focus on different aspects of the growing season and the park. I'd like to stress here that the history of the rose is as complex and magical as that of wine and if you come, be ready to go down that rabbit hole!
After each tour, for those up to it, we'll meet at The Tasting Room in Uptown for a tipple where they'll offer us our own special "Rose Garden Tour Happy Hour" pricing. It'll be good fun and a chance to breakaway from our typical class format and enjoy each other's company in a much less formal environment.
We'll meet at the large fountain just outside of the Rose Garden.
Expect each tour to last about an hour or so.
