Nathalie Joachim: Ki moun ou ye
Copresented by Liquid Music and Berlin
July 25, 2024, 6:30 pm
Grammy-nominated performer and composer Nathalie Joachim returns to Liquid Music for a solo performance featuring songs from her most recent album Ki moun ou ye (co-released by Nonesuch Records and New Amsterdam Records). This intimate work examines ancestral connection and self, building upon an exploration of Haitian heritage in her landmark project Fanm d’Ayiti (2019, a Liquid Music commission).
Hailed by The Nation as "a fresh and invigorating cross-cultural voice," the Haitian-American artist centers her creative practice on an authentic commitment to storytelling and human connectivity while advocating for social change and cultural awareness, which has gained her a reputation for being "powerful and unpretentious" (The New York Times).
Joachim is Assistant Professor of Composition at Princeton University and is regularly commissioned to write for orchestra, instrumental and vocal ensembles, dance, and interdisciplinary theater. Recent highlights include new works for the NY Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Grant Park Music Festival, and Spoleto Festival USA. She is a United States Artist Fellow and co-founder of the critically acclaimed duo Flutronix, and an alumnus of The Juilliard School and The New School.
