Takuma Watanabe, from Tokyo, Japan, moved to NYC to further pursue his bartending career, joining Angel’s Share and rising to manager. In April 2022, he became partner and beverage director at Martiny's, which earned Best New U.S. Cocktail Bar at the 2023 Spirited Awards and ranked #4 in North America’s 50 Best Bars and #24 in the World’s 50 Best Bars in 2024. Building on this momentum, he opened L’Americana, an Italian-inspired bar and bistro, in February 2024 near Martiny’s, followed by his third project, Midnight Blue, a jazz bar in Gramercy, in July 2024. In 2025, Takuma was recognized as a semifinalist for the 2025 James Beard Awards for Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service and a Top 4 Nominee for U.S. Bartender of the Year for the 2025 Spirited Awards.
