For more than eight decades, The Brown Palace Hotel has opened its doors to the National Western Stock Show's Grand Champion Steer, and in 2027 the tradition continues for an 81st year. It remains one of Denver's most cherished moments, when the spirit of the West walks straight into the Atrium.
Join us for Steer Day 2027, a complimentary, ticketed celebration of this beloved Denver tradition. The afternoon begins with the steers' signature red-carpet arrival: the Grand Champion Steer and Grand Reserve Steer make their ceremonial entrance alongside their handlers before taking their place beneath our nine-story stained-glass ceiling.
The celebration unfolds during Afternoon Tea service, and guests are welcome to capture a photo with the steers on their own devices. Beverages will be available for purchase throughout the event. Admission is complimentary, but space is limited and advance tickets are required.
Event Guidelines
For the safety of guests and animals, petting the steers is not permitted.
One (1) photo per guest or group, so everyone has a turn and the animals stay calm.
Photo opportunities are customary but cannot be guaranteed. This is a live-animal event, and the steers' welfare always comes first.
Steeped in history and unmistakably Denver, Steer Day is a living tribute to tradition, hospitality, and the enduring spirit of the West. We hope to see you in the Atrium.
