We invite members to join us for an educational and palate-expanding tasting as we sample and compare Syrah from around the world. Featured wines will include expressions from the Northern Rhone Valley of France, Washington State, New Zealand, and of course, Thurmont, Maryland.
The event will be hosted by Monika Barman, one of our wine educators, on Saturday, June 13th at 11am in the cru lounge.
Monika will discuss in depth the various wines, winemaking techniques, and overall stylistic approaches for each of the selected wines for the event.
Throughout the tasting, Monika will explore how climate, soil, winemaking traditions, and regional style shape the Syrah grape. Guests will have the opportunity to taste Syrah in both its powerful and elegant forms while learning to identify the distinct characteristics that make each region unique. From the savory, structured, elegant wines of the Northern Rhône to the ripe, fruit-forward expressions of New Zealand, this guided class is designed to deepen your appreciation and understanding of the grape variety. This tasting ventures into Adam’s wine library, where we will feature the last of the 2023 Outro Syrah (we ripped out the vines in 2023 after harvest). An elegant burst of fruity and savory flavors, seamlessly balanced, with a harmonious finish. With its fresh core, this wine has staying power – the finish lasts for minutes. A wine of purity, and our final expression of Syrah. Our Outro. Members will have the opportunity to purchase up to two bottles of Outro. This will most likely be the last time we’ll feature this wine.
This intimate tasting experience offers an engaging and approachable look into the world of Syrah through side-by-side comparison and discussion.
This will be a seated tasting of five wines accompanied by light charcuterie.
