There's a whole season packed inside a seed. This fall, we're setting a few of them out on the patio to see what stories they tell.
Join us Thursday, October 29 for Sip & Seed, an evening with the Napa County Seed Library — a free, volunteer-run resource where Napa County gardeners borrow seed, grow it, save it, and return it for the next grower. Our own Tessa Henry has been one of those growers for years, and this fall, you get to be a part of the seed-saving process.
We'll start by learning about three varieties, each with a background, a season behind it, and a reason it's worth keeping around. Lauren of the Napa County Seed Library will walk us through them alongside Tessa, including the Jalapeño Grande pepper and the Huerfano Bliss melon grown right here on the farm.
Then the tables come out. Seed saving is hands-on, unhurried work — separating, cleaning, sorting — and it turns out to be the ideal thing to do with a glass of wine in reach and good company around the table. Stay as long as you like. Ask everything you've ever wanted to ask about saving seed. The Bruschetteria food truck is staying open late, and wines by the glass will be available all evening.
