In 1997, when almost nobody in Napa took the variety seriously on its own, Crocker & Starr made a Cabernet Franc. Nearly thirty years later it still sells out on release.
Cabernet Franc is also one of the most rewarding and least understood pairings for Indian cuisine. Herbal, aromatic, and moderate in tannin, it meets the green and savory notes that bigger reds run straight past. This evening is built around that idea.
Nalla produces immersive South Asian dinners that bring Indian cuisine and California wine together as equals. Four courses, each from a different region of India, served on traditional golden thali plates and paired course by course with the Crocker & Starr portfolio. Live sitar and tabla carry the evening. Shekar Sathyanarayana, Nalla's founder, hosts and walks guests through each dish, the region it comes from, the spices in it, and why it sits where it does in the meal.
