Learn how to integrate common and widely available medicinal herbs into your everyday routine to support general well-being, vitality, and as a practice of preventative self-care.
Join Alex Williams, co-founder of First Curve Apothecary and Greenspell School of Ecological Herbcraft, as he guides you through the practice of herbalism as a complement to conventional care. Alex is a clinical herbalist working with clients to support them in cultivating rituals that emphasize rest and genuine self-care. In addition to his clinical work, he teaches at Roosevelt University and SAIC, and offers sliding scale herbal remedies to Chicago communities through First Curve Apothecary.
We will discuss common weedy herbs that you will likely find growing in your backyard, as well as native medicinal plants that can be grown for their healing properties both within our bodies and for the land. This workshop will introduce common kitchen herbalism practices and preparations – tinctures, teas, infused oils and vinegars, and more – that we will explore in more depth in future workshops where will be able to make these preparations together. Finally, we will discuss the practice of herbalism as a complement to conventional care and the power herbalism offers in nurturing and repairing our connection to the more-than-human world.
