When Mike Grgich first set foot in a Zinfandel vineyard in California, he was struck by the similarities between those vines and the Plavac Mali vines grown in his native Croatia. Years later, a DNA sequencing project spearheaded by Carole Meredith and UC Davis confirmed the link: Zinfandel, like Mike himself, was a Croatian-born immigrant to the United States.
You’re invited to join Grgich Hills Estate President Violet Grgich and veteran winemaker Ivo Jeramaz as you're guided on a tasting journey through the decades, to learn more about Croatia's most famous varietal. A curated selection of Zinfandels past and present will be showcased, including rare library vintages unattainable elsewhere.
Attendees also have the distinct privilege of being among the first to taste a brand-new release: our 2022 Stara Loza Zinfandel, a 95-point masterwork described by Lisa Perrotti-Brown as “Powerful... The full-bodied palate is densely laden with dried red and black berry flavors and exotic spice sparks, supported by velvety tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with epic length."
