HOSTED BY WINEMAKER GREG BREWER
We're excited to welcome special guest GREG BREWER, Wine Enthusiast's Winemaker of the Year in 2020, for our first wine dinner this year. We got to know Greg a year ago when we hosted a trade event, and knew immediately that we needed to invite him back for a public event. This has been in the works since then! Greg is one part philosopher, one part rock-and-roller, and 100% passionate winemaker. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more natural storyteller. It should make for an entertaining evening of great food and wine.
Greg is the winemaker for Brewer-Clifton Wines, Ex Post Facto, and Diatom. His entire career has been committed to the Sta. Rita Hills appellation, which he helped to map, define, and establish in 1997. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay lovers in particular should take note of this exciting appellation, which is also increasingly home to producers doing interesting things with Syrah, Grenache, and more. The AVA certainly has caught our attention here at L'Ostrica, and we're excited to craft a menu to showcase what is happening there.
MORE ABOUT GREG
Greg started his career as a French instructor at UC Santa Barbara before being trained in wine production at Santa Barbara Winery starting in 1991. He created his eponymous label, Brewer-Clifton, with original partner Steve Clifton in 1996 and was the winemaker at Melville Winery from its inception in 1997 through the end of 2015. He then launched Diatom, a label focused on starkly raised Chardonnay, and Ex Post Facto, a Santa Barbara County Syrah. Minimal intervention and a graceful humility about nature's position in the driver's seat are hallmarks of his style.
