This September, the acclaimed chef Walter Manzke comes to the Nicolas-Jay Estate for a singular evening of food and wine. The founder of the Los Angeles institutions République and Manzke, he is among the most celebrated chefs in the country. Michelin-starred and classically trained in the kitchens of Alain Ducasse, he leads one of the country's most acclaimed culinary teams alongside his wife, James Beard Award-winning pastry chef Margarita Manzke. For one night, both him and Margarita are leaving those kitchens behind for Oregon wine country.
The occasion is a long-standing friendship. Walter and Andrew Turner, of Valley Wine Merchants, have known each other for decades, and it is that history that brings him north to cook for us in the heart of the Willamette Valley. There is a natural kinship in the pairing: Manzke cooks the way our valley farms: market-driven and unhurried, devoted to the season and to ingredients at their peak, and that same patience runs through the wines he will be cooking alongside.
Rather than a menu sent out from a distant kitchen, the evening unfolds in front of you. Walter will compose and plate each course as you watch, talking through his choices and pouring our wines as he goes, in the kind of intimate, hands-on setting that rarely exists outside a private table.
Please note: While our culinary team will make reasonable efforts to accommodate dietary preferences, we cannot guarantee a fully gluten-free, vegetarian, or dairy-free experience. Tickets are transferable up to 24 hours before the event.
