Join us for a nature walk on Thursday, September 10th from 6:15-7:30pm. Tom Wyatt of Sancta Natura, a project created to sponsor free nature education will be our guide!
Take a lovely walk through Oakencroft's beautiful farm while Tom helps identify some of the dozens of bird species that are passing through our area from further north en route to the tropics for winter as we begin fall migration, as well as our year-round residents, and other animals and plants. In September, we will begin to have an influx of migratory birds, including warblers, flycatchers, vireos, and cardinalids (buntings, grosbeaks, and tanagers), and we hope to spot some of them. Our walk will take us on trail and road along field and forest edge, learning about the flora and fauna we encounter.
This walk is for adults and kids 14+ that can handle a one mile loop over two hours around the property. Tom will have a spotting scope to put stationary birds in focus, and we will learn about other animals we see, and several important plants found in central Virginia.
