Known for its posh mansions and famed beaches, the Hamptons also have a long and storied agricultural history. To this day the soils here are considered among the most productive in the country. Foster Farm is part of that legacy. Captain Josiah Foster founded the farm in 1870 after retiring from the whaling trade. Today, siblings Dean and Marilee are the 6th generation to work this land. Much of the farm is permanently preserved for agricultural use, and the Fosters grow 200 acres of potatoes, 30 acres of fresh vegetables and a small amount of grain. Much of the potato production goes toward Sagaponack vodka, which we’ll have the chance to taste at reception before sitting down at the long table. Our 1953 tour bus fits in perfectly with the farm’s impressive collection of lovingly restored antique farm vehicles.
Chef Jason is a bit of an OITF celebrity. He’s been participating as guest chef with us since 2008, and this will be his 20th appearance in the field kitchen – more than any other chef in OITF history. That kind of tenure leads to long-standing traditions, including Jason leading the creation of a human pyramid at the event close. If you’ve never been part of a people pyramid, this is your chance. (Feel free to skip participation and assume an observer role).
