Over two decades ago, award-winning Chef Youji Iwakura introduced Boston to a renaissance of authentic Japanese cuisine. His vision—rooted in washoku and shaped by seasonality and restraint—became the foundation of a movement.

In 2018, that philosophy took form as Kamakura, the first modern kaiseki (会席 and 懐石) restaurant in the city. During the pandemic, he launched a curbside ghost kitchen serving his signature Sashimi Chirashi Sushi and jewel-like Poke Boxes (currently paused).

TUESDAY (two seatings) — Sushi Supper — Casual Omakase (おまかせ) 6:00 pm — 13 courses — $120 7:30 pm — 13 courses — $120 / 16 courses — $155 A relaxed, approachable sushi supper designed for an easy weeknight experience. The menu follows a consistent structure with seasonal fish and simple pacing. Guests joining the 7:30 pm seating may choose an extended 16-course option. WEDNESDAY — Closed (Some Wednesdays are open in this month!) We are closed on Wednesdays for operational prep and projects. THURSDAY 7pm — Washoku Night (和食) - Two Options 1.) Cha-Kaiseki (茶懐石, 13 courses) — $165 A traditional Cha-Kaiseki Japanese dining experience featuring seasonal washoku dishes, including one traditional sushi (oshizushi) offered at the counter in a relaxed, intimate setting. 2.) Washoku Dinner Set (和食) — $75 - 95 A composed Japanese-style set featuring a rice bowl with diced sashimi (Poke Jewel) on sushi rice, soup, pickles, a broiled fish main course with seasonal vegetables, and a finishing fruit compote. This is a shorter, approachable evening meal, distinct from Cha Kaiseki. Optional additions: sashimi plate (3 varieties) or wagyu in place of grilled fish Take-home version available by request — please inquire directly FRIDAY (two seatings) — Friday Sushi Omakase (おまかせ) at the Chef's Counter 6:00 pm — Early Seating 13 courses — $145 7:30 pm — Full Curated Experience 16 courses — $180 A chef-curated, omakase-style sushi and appetizers from our kaiseki menu, guided by the day’s fish selection. This evening emphasizes intention, seasonality, and richer sourcing, with pacing shaped by the chef rather than a fixed progression. The 7:30 pm seating presents the full curated experience. SATURDAY 7pm — Sushi Kaiseki (鮨会席) Chef's Signature Experience — $260 Our signature multi-course sushi kaiseki, curated seasonally and served at the counter. This flagship evening is the premium anchor of the week, showcasing the full depth of Washoku Renaissance dining. SUNDAY — Closed (Private Dinners Only) Reserved for private events only. Reservation Cut-Off Policy Sushi Supper & Omakase (Tue & Fri): Reservations must be made by 6:00 PM the day before. WR Kaiseki Series (Thurs & Sat): Reservations must be made by 10:00 PM two days in advance. Reservation Notes Rescheduling = cancellation. Please review our policy before booking. Dietary Restrictions We only accommodate minor dietary restrictions. Please provide details with your booking. Safety: Due to our small kitchen and the risk of cross-contamination, we cannot accommodate serious allergies. Exclusions: We cannot cater to wheat, soy, or fin fish restrictions. Special Occasions We do not serve cakes, as they do not pair with our menu. Instead, we offer a special celebratory plating for our fruit course.
