Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, take a moment to calm your
mind and write the words of Zen with ink and brush. It has the same effect as
meditation.
A local Japanese brush calligraphy instructor, Tomoko Hetherington hosts a
workshop.
You will write a word 知足 Kanji, or Chinese characters, which means those who
know that enough can live their lives in peace. Tomoko instructs tools first
followed by how to manipulate brushes and line movements. After practice, write
the word on the shikishi paper.
All materials you need will be provided.
• 1 shikishi (calligraphy paper mounted to a cardboard backing) 10”x 10.75”
or 25cm x 27cm
• Samples
• Shodo practice papers, sumi-ink
• 1 calligraphy brush
• Step-by-step Instruction
Japanese tea and sweets will be served.
