Would you like to experience the art of Nerikiri, a traditional Japanese confectionery?
Nerikiri is a delicate wagashi unique to Japan, reflecting the beauty of the seasons and often served during tea ceremonies. It is not commonly available in the United States, making this a rare opportunity to experience it hands-on.
Join us for a summer workshop where you will create Nerikiri inspired by Japan’s seasonal summer scenery—fireworks and firefly-patterned Japanese fans. Through this experience, we will also introduce the Japanese aesthetic concept of “mono no aware,” the gentle awareness of the beauty and transience of nature.
The workshop will be held on July 25 and 26 with Toshiko Sugii Steffes.
In this session, participants will shape and color Nerikiri inspired by summer motifs, and enjoy them together with freshly prepared matcha made in the traditional way.
