We—Resy, Tock and the undersigned restaurant owners and operators—write to express our strong support for AB-1245 California Restaurant Reservation Anti-Piracy Bill, which aims to prohibit the unauthorized listing and resale of restaurant reservations in California.
This practice whereby third-party resellers are acquiring reservations and reselling them for a profit has significant negative impacts on small businesses and diners, such as guest dissatisfaction, additional administrative burdens, increased cancellations and no-shows, and lost revenue for restaurants. In an industry where profit margins are thin, every table counts.
At Resy and Tock, our mission is to empower restaurants and contribute to a thriving hospitality industry. As trusted reservation platforms that represent nearly 27,000 restaurants and hospitality venues, we understand the many challenges these businesses face on a daily basis. That’s why we’re working diligently to address the issue of bots and reservation fraud, practices that go against the very spirit of the hospitality industry and the ethos of what we stand for.
We urge you to support AB-1245 California Restaurant Reservation Anti-Piracy Bill as it will help to restore integrity to the reservation process. This bill will not only support the sustainability of small businesses and the restaurant industry, but will protect consumers as well.
